Collaboration with the Makerere University

The private sector drives the creation of jobs, demand for education, development of resources, infrastructure, and legal stability. To compete against multinational companies and products, design is an important factor. Training and professionalising local designers is of priority to Design without Borders.

By it's very nature the design process is a perfect platform for transferring skills, knowledge, and understanding in a concrete and meaningful way.

For this reason, Design without Borders entered a partnership with Makerere University aimed to develop and disseminate knowledge on user-centred design tools and methodology, and its application through strengthening the links with the private sector. The programme consists of a series of short lectures, workshops and design competitions. All coherent with themes in design that include; aesthetics and ergonomics, material technology, ecosystem and user-journey mapping, ideation, prototyping and modelling, and innovative production methods. This collaboration contributes to strengthen the Ugandan manufacturing industry and the local capacity to innovate through enhancing the knowledge of applied design approaches within the university, that ultimately influences the quality and practitioners in the field.
